Frequently Asked Questions

What types of companies do you typically work with?

I mainly work with tech and biotech scale-ups — companies that are maturing quickly, starting to face real accounting and reporting complexity for the first time, and suddenly need to “speak GAAP” because of a U.S. investor, acquisition, or upcoming IPO. These companies don’t need a full-time senior technical accounting hire, can’t justify or benefit from a large advisory firm running a project with a 10-person team, and instead want one expert who can guide the process, transfer knowledge, and keep everything efficient. If you want a senior advisor who’s done this dozens of times and can run the process end-to-end without the Big Four overhead, that’s where I come in.

What kinds of projects do you take on?

I focus entirely on cross-border accounting and reporting complexity, including GAAP conversions, PCAOB audit readiness, IPO readiness for foreign private issuers, US GAAP and IFRS policy drafting, technical accounting memos, SEC-style reporting, and fractional CAO support for European companies with U.S. stakeholders. Everything I do is designed for scale-up finance teams that need senior-level guidance without building an internal technical accounting function or engaging a large advisory firm.

How do you price your work?

I price based on outcomes, not hours. You’re paying for a defined result delivered within a clearly scoped timeline. Because I’ve done so many GAAP conversions and IPO-readiness projects, I can accurately scope the work and give you a fixed investment up front. You can choose standard timelines for a lower investment or expedited timelines for a higher investment and priority access. This gives you cost certainty and lets me take on more clients without being overloaded.

I’m used to working with advisors who charge hourly or daily rates. Why don’t you work that way?

If a GAAP conversion advisor is charging you by the hour, it usually means they don’t know how to scope the work, they lack experience, or they’re shifting the pricing risk onto you. I’ve done this work so many times that I can tell you exactly what it will take and give you a fixed investment from day one. You shouldn’t have to guess what a project will cost or worry about surprise invoices because something took longer than expected.

Do you have availability right now?

Yes—because I price based on timelines. Even if my immediate slots are full, there is almost always a way to fit you in depending on the timeline you choose. Standard timelines offer a lower investment with a flexible start, while expedited timelines offer faster starts and more intensive support. This approach keeps my schedule manageable while giving you flexibility.

    How long do projects take?

GAAP conversions typically take 3–4 months, PCAOB audit readiness about 3–5 months, and IPO readiness anywhere from 6–12 months depending on complexity and stakeholder alignment. Fractional CAO work is ongoing. I work largely asynchronously, which means you’re not on calls every day—I run the project in the background while your team keeps operating normally.

How closely do you work with our auditors and lawyers?

Very closely. For IPOs, conversions, restructurings, and carve-outs, I help pre-clear accounting positions, coordinate with your auditors, align technical conclusions early, and avoid year-end surprises that delay filings or audits. I also work directly with your legal team when structuring impacts accounting outcomes. This coordination is a major part of why clients bring me in.

Can our team do some of the work and have you review it?

Yes. Some clients want to draft memos or policies internally and have me review and refine them. Others prefer the fully serviced approach where I handle everything. The scope can be tailored to your internal bandwidth, comfort level, and budget.

Do you only work with US GAAP or also IFRS?

I work with both, including IFRS and/or US GAAP conversions from local GAAP, FPI/SEC reporting requirements, carve-outs, first-time adoption, and full accounting policy rewrites. Most clients are navigating multi-GAAP environments because of cross-border investors, acquisitions, or listing plans, and I help tie everything together cleanly for audit and reporting.

Are you a replacement for a Big Four firm?

If you’re talking about advisory work, yes—I can absolutely replace a Big Four advisory team. Scale-up companies don’t need a 10-person advisory team working in a black box with no knowledge transfer. They need one senior expert who knows how to do the work quickly and pragmatically. But I do not replace your auditors. You will still have a separate audit firm, often Big Four or equivalent, because auditors cannot perform GAAP conversions, IPO readiness, or technical accounting advisory work due to independence rules.

Are you a replacement for a full-time hire?

Typically, no. Most companies bring me in for project-based work like GAAP conversions or IPO preparation, which doesn’t justify hiring a full-time technical accounting specialist. I can act as a fractional CAO for European companies with U.S. reporting requirements, but eventually as the company grows, they may need a full-time internal CAO—and I help clients determine the right timing for that transition.

    How do we get started?

Just schedule a call with me. We’ll walk through your goals, timelines, the support you need, and what information you already have. From there, I’ll put together a detailed proposal with the scope, timelines, and options tailored to your situation.

What makes you different from other advisors?

I’m the only independent advisor I’ve found who works exclusively in this niche—GAAP conversions, PCAOB readiness, IPO preparation, and cross-border technical accounting for European scale-ups going toward the U.S. markets. Unlike large advisory firms, you don’t get a junior team, layers of reviewers, or a black-box process where knowledge stays with the firm instead of your team. And unlike interim CFO freelancers or generalist finance contractors, I’m not “figuring it out as I go.” This is the only type of work I do, and I’ve built a repeatable, proven process I use across every client. You get Big Four-level technical expertise, direct access to the person actually doing the work, full transparency, and real knowledge transfer so your team becomes stronger—not dependent.
